Frequently Asked Questions

Algarve – Portugal Program

January – March 2021

Most popular FAQ’s

When will the program start and for how long is it going to be?

The program will start after new years, in January 2021. We will update on the exact date soon.
The program will be for three months and ends before Easter (April) 2021.

When will the accommodation and program prices be announced?

We are currently on a second fieldtrip to Portugal to revisit some places and to evaluate to pros and cons again to make sure that we pick the best spot for the program and the community. Soon the exact package with all the conditions will be announced.  Sign up for our newsletter and you will be the first one to know.

Are we going to do all the programs in the Algarve Portugal?

No! We chose the Algarve Portugal due to the uncertain times wth the pandemic and because this area is beautiful and comfortable during the winter time. As a nomadic community, we will travel from one destination to another every 2-3 months. If  the situation allows us then we will go to destinations all over the world in Central & South America, Europe, Africa , Asia, …
Families can apply for each program separately.

Weather in the Algarve Portugal - are we prepared for the winter?
Short answer is YES! Of course. We chose the Algarve for many reasons. One of them is the mild winter.
We will make sure the accommodation has heating as well as in the communal areas.
Are meals included?

We believe that having meals together will create new friendships, experiences and memories.
Breakfast – possibly included in the package. As we are finalizing the details of our accommodations, we will update on the way breakfasts will be.
Lunch – included for sure. After a busy morning, when the kids are back from the different activities, we want to have lunch together, share experiences and hear about your day.
Dinner – not included. Different families have different habits. Some of you eat early, some of you like to have a quiet dinner as a family and few of you will go out to a restaurant. It’s up to you.
We will do special dinner parties on a weekly basis where everybody could join.
Our meals will be healthy and delicious.

What age is the Educational Program 'Los Camaleones' with Joice and Ale for?

The program is for kids the age of 3-7.
Regardless of the program, we will open a toddler group for younger kids and it will be based on volunteer basis (us as parents).
Kids who are older than 7 tears old will be able, like the rest of the community, to participate in our community activities.
We will offer different activities for our older kids such as young entrepreneurs club, debate class, arts and crafts, sport activities and many more!

Is there also education for older kids?

Los Camaleones is only for kids up to 7 years.  But workshops, classes and activities will be organized for older kids too. In collaboration with all the parents a great program wll be set up for the older kids and teens.

Insurances - do we need them? Do we have them?
We will have a liability insurance, both from the accommodations and as Planeta Explorers.
Health Insurance – as responsible parents for amazing kids, health insurance will be mandatory in order to be part of our community. Health insurance can be public or private. We want to know that you are safe and protected in case you will need it.
We hope that you understand us and we appreciate your questions about it.
What if covid makes it impossible to come to Portugal?

We will update our followers and community on a weekly basis about new restrictions. If it will be impossible to come to Portugal due to Covid-19 restrictions, then we will try to find an alternative solution in Europe.  If you don’t like the alternative or no solution is available then you can cancel at no charge.

I have to work (online). Is there a workspace available?

Yes, we all work while we travel.  We only choose accommodations where we can provide a co-working space with good internet.  It will be a perfect environment to work efectively and a wonderful opportunity to learn from each other:
regular business workshops and meetings will be organized.

Can families join for one month only?

We prioritize families who want to join for the whole program (three months). We believe that we can build a strong community and three months will give us the stability that we want for our community and for our kids.
In addition to that, we want to provide the most attractive package. Therefore, a commitment of three months will allow us to offer you a better and more affordable program.

General FAQ’s

Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free … food possible?

Yes, no problem. The families who join our program will receive a questionnaire with questions. Special diets is one of them. We want to make sure you feel comfortable and have what you need.

Do we have access to a kitchen?

Depends on the accommodations. Either access to the main kitchen and/or private kitchen in your unit/apartment.

What kind of activities will be organized?

We will organize daily workshops and activities like meditation, yoga, capoeira, sports, debate classes, handicraft, language exchange, business workshops  … and weekly activities and excursions. We will consult all the members of the community for the favorite activities you all want to do and we will make it happen.

Can I organize activities/workshops in the community?

Yes, we encourage the members of the community to participate and contribute their knowledge and share their skills with all of us.

Do we have to help in the program's daily organization?

(food, activities, workshops, logistics, education …?)
You are not required to help in the daily logistics but any help is always very much appreciated as in any community.
We also encourage people who would love to organize activities and/or workshops during the progam. Contact us if you would wish to do so.

How many families will join?

We don’t have a maximum number but we want to have 10-12 families (including our three families)

Where will most families come from? (nationalities)

It will be a very international group with families from all kinds of countries and nationalities.  Imagine, in our own three founding families we already have many nationalities (Belgian, Argentinean, Chilean, Israeli, Hungarian & Brazilian) with a range of different native languages. To avoid subgroups in the community we don’t accept too many families from the same nationality.

We don't speak English (well), is that a problem?

No, this is not a problem. The main language used in the community will be English but there will be families from many nationalities to communicate with. The members of the 3 founding families already have Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch and Hebrew as native languages.  We love to learn from each other!
And kids are like sponges, they pick up a language in no time.  It’s actually the pefect opportunity for them to learn a new language or to improve their language skills.

My family needs to be an experienced travel family?

No. Absolutely not. Your family can join us even if this is your first long trip.  Most of the families are experienced so you will get a lot of tips & tricks, recomendations and help from our team and other families.

Will we need a car?

Not as a must. But if you prefer to have the freedom to explore by yourself also then it’s easier for you to rent a car (if you don’t have a car yourself). At the airport in Faro (Algarve-Portugal) it’s very cheap to rent a car.  We can explain you how to rent a cheap car and we can help to get you a yearly online rental car insurance.

Can we come with our motorhome?

In theory – yes. Once we announce the accommodations, we will know how many campers or motorhomes we can host at the same time. We are working on it.

Is there an airport nearby?

Yes. The Algarve has an international airport in Faro with many connections to other airports/countries in Europe.

Can we bring our dog?

Some accommodations accept pets, other’s don’t.  We will communicate soon if it will be possible to bring your pet(s).
